Mr.Robert Sullivan,Cod and lobster fisherman, boatbuilder, Port Daniel,Gaspésie, Québec. August, 1998.

La Mission Photographique de Gaspésie was a project initiated by Gérald Bouillon as an outraged response to a 1993 CBC phone-in with the topic:
"should we close the Gaspésie region?".

Modelling himself on the French social documentary project: les Missions de La DATAR, which commissions artist/photographers to document various geographic regions on a large scale, Bouillon commissioned four canadians to document the social transformations of the Gaspésie region, starting with the fishing industry, so obviously in crisis.

My own commission was to travel the south shore and photograph fishermen inside and outside of their houses, according to age, region, and species fished. Over a 3-week period, in August, 1898, I photographed about 30 people, and learned a lot about the other side of the fish story.
