La
Mission Photographique de Gaspésie was a project
initiated by Gérald Bouillon as an outraged response to a 1993
CBC phone-in with the topic: Modelling himself on the French social documentary project: les Missions de La DATAR, which commissions artist/photographers to document various geographic regions on a large scale, Bouillon commissioned four canadians to document the social transformations of the Gaspésie region, starting with the fishing industry, so obviously in crisis. |

My own commission was to travel the south shore and photograph fishermen inside and outside of their houses, according to age, region, and species fished. Over a 3-week period, in August, 1898, I photographed about 30 people, and learned a lot about the other side of the fish story. |
